Nirmal Niazi | M.Phil., C. Psych. Assoc. (Supervised Practice)

I have over 12 years of experience across clinical, academic, and psychological assessment settings. I am currently registered with the College of Psychologists and Behaviour Analysts of Ontario as a Psych. Associate (Supervised Practice).  My primary focus is psychological assessment, having conducted close to 1,000 assessments with individuals and groups across a wide range of presenting concerns. Alongside my clinical work, I have been involved in teaching and training at undergraduate and graduate levels, as well as conducting workshops on emotional regulation and mental health for diverse audiences. I was awarded Best Abstract at the International Conference on Applied Psychology (2017), presented by Martin Seligman, for my paper titled “Reintegration of Self Using Positive Psychology Interventions: A Single Case Study of Psychosis.” My work is grounded in both depth-oriented clinical understanding and structured assessment-based practice, allowing me to support clients in making sense of complex psychological presentations with clarity and precision.

What You Can Expect from Therapy with Me

I am an active therapist and will not simply sit back and listen. Depending on your needs and goals, I may offer observations, ask challenging questions, provide practical tools, or help you examine patterns that have developed over time. My aim is to create a space where you feel understood while also being encouraged to look at yourself and your experiences in new ways.

Here’s what you can expect from our sessions:

  • A flexible, client-led process: Sessions follow what feels most relevant in the moment whether that’s a situation, a pattern, or something that has stayed with you during the week.
  • Working with what comes up in session: We pay attention to thoughts, emotions, and reactions as they happen, including how they show up in the way you describe and relate to experiences.
  • Real-life application: Attention is given to how things show up outside the therapy room in decisions, relationships, work, and day-to-day stress, and what you might try differently.
  • Looking beyond immediate concerns: Alongside current difficulties, we also make space to understand how past experiences and repeated patterns continue to shape how you think, feel, and respond.

My Approach: Direct, Clear, and Compassionate

My therapeutic approach is direct, rooted in the belief that you as a person have full capacity to grow, thrive and live a fulfilling life. So, I would work with you to address any barriers known and unknown that are keeping you from reaching your full potential.

What you Can Expect From Therapy with Me:

  • Learn to navigate difficult emotions with awareness and self-compassion.
  • Make sense of the patterns, experiences, and relationships that shape your life.
  • Develop practical approaches for managing stress, uncertainty, and change.
  • Strengthen your confidence, trust your voice, and show up more fully in leadership roles, relationships, and everyday decisions.
  • Process the effects of trauma and difficult experiences in a space that values personal agency and lived experiences.

What Makes My Approach Unique

I have worked with clients from different cultures and regions (Europe, Australia, North America, Asia) and being an immigrant myself I am able to view the world from a complex and diverse lens hence being able to integrate varying world views with integrity, authenticity and curiosity. This enables me to provide clinical care that is grounded not only in individual experiences but also in the systemic, cultural, and relational contexts that shape people’s lives.
