Kristin Michie | MPsy | Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying)

With a Master’s in Clinical Psychology, my path to psychotherapy has been anything but linear. I began with an Honours BA in English Language and Literature, followed by work in the corporate sector, before turning toward mental health. Volunteer work at CAMH inspired me to return to school, complete the required undergraduate psychology credits, and then my Master’s degree. I also trained for two years at the Gestalt Institute of Toronto.

During my graduate training, I worked in both private practice and a university counselling centre, experiences that shaped my integrative, client-focused approach. As a Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying) with the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario, I value creating a collaborative environment where clients feel supported in their process of growth and change.

What You Can Expect from Therapy with Me

I believe therapy is co-created. My role is to work alongside you to help you navigate the challenges you are facing. Together we will make sense of what feels overwhelming and open up space for insight and change.

Here’s what you can expect from our sessions:

  • A collaborative, supportive approach: Therapy with me is like having someone walk with you for part of your journey, supporting the growth, new insight and building resilience.
  • A non-judgemental space: This is a place to explore, feel heard, and face what feels daunting without fear of judgment.
  • Practical strategies: We will develop a repertoire of tools for everyday life, helping you navigate change in relationships, career, or personal growth.

My Approach:

My approach to therapy is integrative. I work primarily from a psychodynamic framework, layering in a trauma-informed perspective along with evidence-based modalities such as CBT and ACT.

Through our work together, you can expect to:

  • Identify and build new coping strategies
  • Explore life challenges through a holistic, biopsychosocial lens
  • Connect the dots between past experiences and present patterns
  • Navigate life transitions with greater clarity
  • Develop new skills to manage anxiety and stress

What Makes My Approach Unique

I bring both advanced clinical training and lived experience to my work. Coming to this profession in mid-life, I understand what it means to face challenges, make changes, and seek new meaning. My practice is grounded in compassion, authenticity, and a belief in the potential for growth at every stage of life.
