Couples Counselling

Couples counselling is designed to help partners improve their relationship, navigate challenges, enhance communication, or determine the best way to separate. At the Cohen Clinic, we provide a compassionate and non-judgmental space for couples to explore their relationship dynamics and work towards meaningful change. Whether you’re seeking to strengthen your connection or address specific issues, therapy is tailored to meet your unique needs as a couple.

The first step is to contact the clinic to set up a free phone consultation with the Clinic Coordinator. We recommend that both partners attend this consultation call. During the phone consultation, the Clinic Coordinator will provide information about the clinic and recommend therapists based on your needs.

Couples therapy begins with an intake session, where the therapist will meet with both partners to assess relationship difficulties and treatment needs. After the initial sessions, the therapist may request individual meetings with each partner to gain a deeper understanding of personal histories and needs. Once the assessment is complete, the therapist will work with you to establish therapeutic goals and create a tailored treatment plan.

Common examples of couples counselling goals include:

  • Attuning to emotional responses and needs

  • Increasing effective communication

  • Understanding and changing ineffective behavioral and mental patterns

  • Navigating separation or divorce

Using evidence-based treatments, we work to help couples tap into their strengths and achieve their goals. If we assess your needs to be outside the scope of our practice, we will collaborate with you to identify the best-fit referral options.
