CPT treatment was specifically designed to help individuals suffering from trauma and Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). Similarly to CBT, CPT emphasizes the idea that what we think affects how we feel and act. After experiencing a traumatic event(s), our cognitive processing (i.e. thinking) can be deeply impacted. While trying to cope with the trauma, the body and mind may develop unhelpful beliefs and behaviours that can cause devastating effects to one’s self-esteem, trust in others/self, relationships, and feelings of safety.
