Carmel Laniado | M.S.W, R.S.W, Registered Social Worker

With a Master of Social Work from the University of Toronto, my approach to therapy is rooted in compassion and warmth. I’ve worked in hospitals, family service agencies, and private practice, supporting individuals through many different chapters of life. I work collaboratively with clients to create a safe, supportive space for healing, exploration, and growth.
I have a particular interest in how both small and significant traumas impact our brains, nervous systems, and relationships. I believe we all have the capacity to look inward with compassion — making sense of our experiences and finding meaningful ways to heal and grow.

What You Can Expect from Therapy with Me

My style is guided by empathy, curiosity, and a touch of humour. I believe you are the expert in your own life, so sessions are guided by your goals and move at a pace that feels right for you.

Here’s what you can expect from our sessions:

  • A Collaborative, Safe Space: Therapy is a shared journey. I prioritize creating a compassionate, non-judgmental environment where you can feel comfortable being yourself and exploring what matters most to you.
  • Support for Trauma and Emotional Healing: Using trauma-focused approaches such as EMDR and IFS, we can process distressing memories and emotional blocks in a way that feels grounded and manageable.
  • Practical Skills: Change also happens outside the therapy room. You’ll build effective coping tools for managing stress, anxiety, relationship challenges, and emotional overwhelm.
  • Understanding Your Story: Together, we’ll explore how your brain and nervous system respond to stress, and how past experiences may show up in the present — helping you develop greater insight, agency, and choice.

My Approach

My Approach: Compassionate, Real, Trauma-Informed
I practice from a trauma-informed, relational lens that honours your lived experience and inherent capacity for growth. I believe the therapeutic relationship itself is a powerful part of healing, and I strive to create a steady, attuned environment where you can explore difficult thoughts and feelings without judgment. I balance depth-oriented exploration with practical tools to support day-to-day functioning.

Through our work together, you can expect to:

  • Identify and shift unhelpful thought patterns, gaining clarity on how they influence your emotions and behaviours.
  • Develop effective coping skills for managing anxiety, stress, and mood, enabling you to navigate challenges with greater stability.
  • Process and heal from past traumas within a supportive, non- judgmental space, allowing you to move forward with increased safety and confidence.
  • Strengthen your self-confidence through work on assertiveness, boundary setting, and emotional regulation.
  • Enhance emotional awareness and regulation, helping you better understand and respond to your emotions in healthier ways.
  • Build resilience and motivation to navigate life transitions, workplace stress, and academic challenges with greater confidence.

What Makes My Approach Unique

My approach is deeply client-centered and individualized. I recognize that each person’s journey is unique, and I strive to create a therapeutic space where you feel empowered to explore and grow at your own pace. By integrating evidence-based techniques with genuine relational care, I support meaningful change.
